100s Expected for #Day1forERA Rally at MN Capitol, Tuesday, January 3rd at 1:15pm!
Saint Paul – For the 100th Anniversary of the ERA’s first introduction into Congress, ERA Minnesota (ERAMN www.eramn.org) anticipates its largest crowd of activists ever for their ERA push entitled #Day1forERA Rally on Tuesday, January 3, 2023, at 1:15 pm in the Minnesota Capitol Rotunda.
This year ERAMN is introducing 2 all-new, all-inclusive ERA bills:
- MN STATE ERA Ballot Initiative: “Equality under the law shall not be abridged or denied by this state or any of its cities, counties, or other political subdivisions on account of race, color, creed, sex, sexual orientation, gender identity or expression, age, disability, ancestry, or national origin.”- Chief authors: Senator Mary Kunesh & Representative Kaohly Her.
- MN FEDERAL RESOLUTION TO CONGRESS: “BE IT RESOLVED by the Legislature of the State of Minnesota that it urges the Congress of the United States to pass House Resolution 891, resolving that the requirements have been met to ratify the ERA and that it shall now be known as the Twenty-Eighth Amendment to the Constitution.” – Chief authors: Senator Sandy Pappas & Representative Kristin Bahner.
“27 states currently have ERAs in their state constitution, and this year 5 more states are actively amending their constitutions,” said ERAMN President Suzann Willhite. “Minnesota lags on equality and closing gender, racial, economic and social disparities.”
“Our legislators have the resolve to bring state and federal constitutions out of the 18th Century into the 21st Century by adding the ERA to modernize our constitutional understanding of liberty, justice, and equality for all,” said ERAMN Founder Betty Folliard. “Now they just need to act in 2023 to make the ERA a reality. It’s our time.”
