Call to Action: Help Pass the ERA in 2023!

December 23, 2022
100 years is too long to wait – call, write, or email the Minnesota Speaker of the House and Minnesota Senate Majority Leader to let them know we need the State Equal Rights Amendment passed in 2023!

ERA Talking Points

Here’s why we need the ERA in 2023:

  • We have the momentum right now in numbers too big to ignore. We must seize the moment and enact the will of Minnesotans as soon as possible.
  • 2023 marks the One-Hundredth Anniversary of the ERA’s introduction in Congress. We have waited too long for equality, and we can’t wait any longer.
  • It must happen in 2023 to allow us the time we need to garner a yes vote on a general election ballot initiative in 2024. Conversations take much longer across Greater Minnesota than in the metro area, and we want to give all Minnesotans the chance to support this monumental step.

ERAs Protects Bodily Autonomy

The Equal Rights Amendment is the first line of defense for bodily autonomy. Pennsylvania, Utah, New Mexico, and Connecticut all have state ERAs and have successfully litigated against anti-abortion efforts. Codifying Roe is necessary, but not enough.

Without an ERA, legislation protecting bodily autonomy is vulnerable to the whims of future legislators. Constitutionalizing equality provides concrete protections against discrimination.
